Municipality of Whistler

MapGuide® OpenSource + iVAULT slim workflows, delivering web accessible mapping

The Resort Municipality of Whistler, famous for recreation, enjoys economic vibrancy and growth. Their strategy was to move their geographic information system (GIS) online to make data updates easier while providing greater access to information and engaging the community.

Challenge

The client was faced with tight time targets while data sat in multiple systems. Pacific Alliance was engaged to provide a web solution to speed access and improve response times.

Solution

MapGuide OpenSource and iVAULT were chosen to improve workflow and data access. Integrating maps and data via multiple data sources, these products act as a data repository, allowing quick queries, analysis and data distribution. Two applications were created: one for employees and one for the public. This integration also brought maps and financial data together. Using point-to-point measures for property ranges, employees can quickly determine an address, zoning history, ownership, permit status, work orders and more. Additionally, the system can generate mailing lists and labels. Users can view maps with roll numbers, property type, zoning, assessed values, etcetera.

Results

“MapGuide and iVAULT improved our data use and how we work. Our customers and staff are happier. Pacific Alliance did a great job.” – Dan Griffin, GIS Coordinator, Resort Municipality of Whistler.

Easier data access for employees and the public: from historical records to mapping to work order status. Working with current information makes updates and decisions easier. As an benefit, this integration advances the municipality towards meeting part of the PSAB 3150 requirements for 2009.

“A web-GIS solution has been a huge win for all. These tools provide outstanding workflow, simplifying once complicated data access and reducing response times. And, with online public mapping, customer feedback has been great: they more engaged in the planning and zoning process,” Daniffin, GIS Coordinator, Resort Municipality of Whistler.
