Conversion to MapGuide® Open Source and iVAULT
Located in southwest Alberta between Calgary and Lethbridge, Vulcan County covers almost 550,000 hectares with over 6,600 people living within its borders.
Challenges
Vulcan County uses multiple SQL Server databases and wanted to publish data to the web with geospatial mapping for greater staff efficiency and service. They chose Pacific Alliance because of their expertise with MapGuide implementations and their iVAULT product.
Solution
MapGuide Open Source was chosen as it offers numerous benefits, including platform flexibility, a single authoring tool for easier data integration, and programming flexibility. iVAULT provided easy report creation and was easily integrated with Vulcan County’s databases, most noteworthy being the Microsoft Dynamics and Diamond Municipal Databases.
Results
Pacific Alliance implemented MapGuide Open Source to create GIS mapping for use on Vulcan County’s intranet and Internet sites. iVAULT’s easy adaptability makes report creation easy and seamless. Vulcan County staff is now able to easily access data for greater efficiency and better decision-making.

MapGuide Open Source
MapGuide Open Source is a web-based platform that enables users to develop and deploy web mapping applications and geo- spatial web services. MapGuide features an interactive viewer that includes support for feature selection, property inspection, map tips, and operations such as buffer, select within, and measure.
